The aim of this project is to build a small (or expandable) cluster built with Raspberry clusters to play with Big Data and AI related projects.
The first part presented here deals with the hardware gathering and assembly. The software setup will follow and then it will be ready to be tested!!!

The main components

  • A rounded wood shelf will be used as a case. It can help stacking the cluster if a 2nd one is built and it allows rotating it to test different scenarios for cooling. As seen on some similar projects, I'll maybe close the shelf with some plexiglass.
  • A set of Raspberry Pi boards, the project will start with 1 "master" Raspberry PI 3 controlling 3 "slaves" RPIs model 2B. The idea is to expand the number of RPIs, if the results are encouraging.
  • The US Robotics MAXg Wireless router from 2004 will be used to connect all these boards.
  • To power all these boards I'll use an USB power bank from Anker

Cables and other accessories

To connect all these elements, the following cables will be used. With as much as possible the idea that these cables should remain short to fit in the case, but not to much to allow proper connection and expansion of the cluster.
  • To connect the RPIs to the router, these nice color network cables:
  • To connect the RPIs to the power provider, these micro USB cables:
  • Other accessories: some micro sdcards to store the software, some RPI heaters, and also some accessories from a previous project related to AI: a microphone, a camera and a speaker. Hope these accessories will enable some nice interaction with the cluster!!
